Camp O'Cumberland

Camp O' Cumberlands, the conference's year-round camping center, is nestled in one of the prettiest hollows in Harlan County Kentucky. This hollow comes down from Pine Mountain providing the camp with a beautiful stream, trails, and wooded mountains. A vast assortment of trees, plants, birds, and friendly wildlife makes Camp O' Cumberlands an outstanding area for drawing closer to God and the outdoors.

Harlan County Girl Scouts originally developed Camp O'Cumberlands in the 1930’s. An active scout leader did much to develop and maintain the camp. Following her death, the property was not being used. The camp Board of Directors began searching for a group that would continue to utilize the facility for life enrichment.

In 1985, the Red Bird Missionary Conference was granted a 99-year lease on the property. Thanks to volunteer workers and contributions from across The United Methodist Church, renovation and upgrades have slowly taken place over the years.
To date, new water lines and electrical service,
two new cabins, a new showerhouse, a cottage,
and a staff residence have resulted from
such gifts of love. This is only one example
of what it means to be part of a connectional
church with a heart for mission.
