About our church
The Evarts Congregational UMC formed in 1892 as the Congregational Church in Evarts. The church became the Congregational United Methodist Church in 1978 after 5 years of being supplied with UM Pastor, who was moving and no hopes of a pastor to follow.

In November, 2001, the Congregational UMC united with the Evarts UMC, whose building and property had been purchased by the US Army Corps of Engineers in a Flood Project, thus creating the Evarts Congregational UMC.

Transforming lives...transforming communities...
The hills are alive with the sound of four-wheel ATV's and rock-climbing jeeps thanks to a new off-road park. Over 8,000 acres of mountain top-land in Harlan County was leased to create this park. The park has become a new source of tourism and since it unofficially opened, thousands have come to the town of Evarts, the entrance to park. The Evarts Congregational United Methodist Church recognized this as a ministry opportunity. Working with the Harlan County Ridge Runners (the local four-wheel ATV organization), they began offering breakfast to these groups mostly on the Saturdays when large rides are scheduled. On Friday, December 31, 2004, the church offered its first breakfast, consisting of pancakes, sausage, juice, and milk to riders before they took off to view the beauty of Harlan County.

Evarts Congregational not only feed these visitors who come from as far north as Michigan and Canada and west as Illinois, but have also begun special 8:00 a.m. worship services on these weekends so that people can attend church before they go out and ride.
