In Memory of Rev. Eldon H. Huston

Rev. Eldon H. Huston passed away suddenly from a coronary attack on Sunday, January 15, 2006, in Alabama, while enroute with other members from the Red Bird Missionary Conference on a workteam to Gulfport, Mississippi to help Katrina victims.

Rev. Huston had a heart for mission and served as project leader on many work project both in and outside of Red Bird Missionary Conference.

Rev. Huston spent his life in service to others and will be sadly missed by the Red Bird Missionary Conference.

"Well done good and faithful servant..." Matthew 25:21

Eldon was born in northeast Ohio and was raised on a farm by two Christian parents who believed in church attendance and hard work.

He married his wife, Naomi, in 1957.  They have five children and eleven grandchildren; and were foster parents for seventeen children.

Eldon was a very versatile man with many facets of experience. He has worked on the farm with grain, cattle and hogs; and has experience as an auto mechanic, carpenter, machine tool and die worker. He worked in a factory as a shipping clerk, in maintenance, product development, production control and as a plant manager. He started a new plant operation from building construction to full-line production where he worked until January 1990.

Eldon accepted Christ in his teen years and served the United
Methodist Church at various times as Sunday School teacher, youth leader and lay leader. He became a lay speaker in 1970 and after completing the Local Pastors Course of Study at Garrett Theological Seminary in 1973 he began to serve as a Local Pastor. In 1990, Eldon and Naomi moved to Kentucky where Eldon began serving as the Director of Community Housing Improvement for Red Bird Mission, one of Red Bird Missionary Conference’s four agencies. Eldon also served as a volunteer firefighter/EMT.

From 1990-2004, Naomi worked as a full-time volunteer at Red Bird Mission Crafts, and served as store manager.

In 2002, Eldon felt God’s call to return to pastoral ministry and began serving part-time as pastor in the Red Bird Missionary Conference.

He began serving Annville UMC, the only United
Methodist Church in Jackson County, Kentucky. In 2004, Eldon became the full-time pastor at Annville UMC and continued serving there until his death.
