Manchester First United Church began in
1956 in the basement of the Clay County
Courthouse. Evangelist Ford Philpott
was instrumental in establishing this
church. Manchester First United
Methodist Church was a member of the
Kentucky Conference until 1985 when it
joined the Red Bird Missionary Conference.

Elizabeth and other ladies prepared refreshments for the children and young people at Manchester UMC for Vacation Bible School. The students enjoyed searching for treasures, singing, crafts, games and Bible lessons for five evenings. Many children here in the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky experience Christ's love each week of the year through the ministries of the Red Bird Missionary Conference.
