Rev. Jack Short
Pastor
Jack Short is the pastor of New Springs UMC and the Faith Outreach Center. Jack was raised here going to church at Middle Fork UMC, went to Red Bird Mission School and finally attending ALPS, after feeling a call to ministry. He describes his wife Lora as his partner in ministry. She also work as the public library. The have two children. Reagan attends the University of Cumberlands. Their son David is a chef at the Natural Bridge State Park and is married to Jo'e Lynn who works at the Action Team in Owsley County. Jack and Lora have one grandson who attends first grade in Lee County.

Jack describes his call as happening while he was attending with my wife and children, the Middlefork UMC, a church of the Red Bird Missionary Conference. "I felt the call for pastoral ministry from the Holy Spirit, and wanted to serve in my home conference."

Jack's very honest in talking about his struggles. He describes his biggest struggle as "dealing with death and sickness as a pastor. Not being able to take the pain and hurt away from those to whom I am ministering to. I know just being there means a lot, but I feel so inadequate in this area of ministry. I feel I do not say the right things in such times of loss."

Jack says, "I have received "Missionary Help" from the Red Bird Missionary Conference, and now I want to work within a conference that has done so much for me, to serve others in my native land as I have been served." He has many special moments that stand out in fact he says, "I have many, too many to mention here. But, to mention one, is baptizing young new believers in our Lord Jesus Christ and taking them into membership of the United Methodist Church. As John Wesley would say, "Spreading Holiness" where we live."

Jack loves the Red Bird Missionary Conference and his opportunity to serve here, He says its "because I believe the Red Bird Missionary Conference means to share Jesus Christ in the Heart of Appalachia."
