Rev. Robert Amundsen
Robert E. Amundsen, Jr. is the pastor of the Thousandsticks UMC. Robert came to the Red Bird Missionary Conference from the Holston Conference. He has his Bachelors of Science and Master of Education degrees. He began his ministry at the ALPS weekend school, but has since become a graduate of the Advanced Course of Study. Robert's wife, Shirley, teaches Early Childhood Development for Red Bird Mission. Shirley is originally from the Red Bird Missionary Conference. They have been married since December 1996. They have a wonderful son, Jordyn, who was born in October of 2001. Jordyn is currently in the third grade.

Robert came to the Red Bird Missionary Conference as a teacher to Red Bird Mission School in 1995, following a mission trip to Liberia, West Africa. He came expecting to taeach but "God kept calling me into pastoral ministry and I decided it was time to quit running."

In ministry Robert shares that he has struggles with, "wanting to try to meet the needs of the people around us but knowing some are too great. He is passionate about serving here however because, "The Red Bird Missionary Conference reminds me of home. I love the area and the people. I find it a joy to work with the people of southeast Kentucky." Robert feels that his most memorable moment was working in ministry with a mother and daughter. "During that time, the daughter went from awkward and shy to open and outgoing. She became very inquisitive of the Bible and God's work in her life."

Robert loves the Red Bird Missionary Conference. "I believe in our work for Jesus Christ here in the mountains of Southeast Kentucky. I have invested my life here. My wife is from here, our son was born here, and I do not foresee us ever leaving the ministry that we are doing here."
