Stoney Fork UMC
Pastor Steve Wilson

About our church...

Stoney Fork UMC was organized in the
early 1950’s as a part of the Evangelical
United Brethren Church.  It became a
United Methodist Church in 1968, with
the union of the EUB and Methodist
churches.  It is a beacon of God’s light
on a hill in the Stoney Fork community.

Transforming lives...transforming communities...

J.D. has been a part of the Stoney Fork UMC most of his life.  He is now in his late twenty’s, and is a regular attendee at worship and other events in the life of the church.  J.D. is what some people would call “special”.  I have come to understand that J.D. is special—he is a child of God and full of His love.  J.D. testifies, sings, prays, and participates in many ways in the life of Stoney Fork UMC.  J.D. approached one day and asked me about being baptized.  He said, “I visit a lot of churches, and I don’t feel accepted anywhere as much as I do here.  It is here that I feel God’s love.  Everywhere else people seem to be judgmental.”  So, we set a date in August and met at the Church parsonage, which is also the site of “the hole”—the traditional baptizing spot in the community.  J.D. and I steeped into the creek, he was baptized, and then those gathered from Stoney Fork sang “I’ll Fly Away”.  It is because of the people of Stoney Fork UMC, and their commitment to the love of God, that J.D. made a public profession of faith and was baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Spirit.
